Dorothy H. (Lewis) Gibbs

Dorothy H. (Lewis) Gibbs, of Hull, formerly of Marshfield, Weymouth and Hingham, died peacefully at her home on Friday, December 30, 2022. She was 84.

Dorothy was born in Brighton on September 2, 1938, and was a cherished daughter of the late Howard and Florence (Sheppard) Lewis. Dorothy was raised in Brighton and went to local schools.

Dorothy’s career was in healthcare as a registered nurse. She worked for Fox Hill Village retirement community in Westwood. Dorothy loved being a nurse, caring for her patients and all the relationships she built throughout the years. She retired in 2014 to spend more time with her family.

Dorothy’s life lessons and example are part of her legacy that continue through her family and friends. She will be missed by all the lives she touched.

Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late James H. Gibbs, who died in 2001. Together they shared many loving years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Barbara Garvin and her husband Kevin of Hull, Michael Gibbs and his wife Robin of California, Daniel Gibbs and his wife Roberta of North Carolina, and the late James Gibbs. She was the loving grandmother of seven and the loving great grandmother of six. Dorothy was the dear sister of Marion Bricker and her late husband of North Carolina, and is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visitation on Monday, January 9, 2023, from 9-10:30 AM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM.

Her funeral will be held in St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, 172 Main St., Hingham, MA 02043 at 11 AM.

Services conclude with interment in New Calvary Cemetery, Boston.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in Dorothy’s name to the charitable organization of one’s choice.
