Dorothy “Dottie” (Philbrick) Canniff of Weymouth, passed away surrounded by her loving family and caregivers on January 8, 2025. She was 92.
Dottie was referred to as a “little ball of fire.”
She married “Bud” and raised a family. Like her mom, she lost her husband early. With strength and support from many she got back on her feet and dedicated her life to church, family, and community. She was active at Saint Paul’s Church in Hingham and Immaculate Conception Church in Weymouth where she was a Eucharistic Minister and taught religious education classes and organized church events.
She loved baking, gardening, and spending time with her dog. Her favorite way to start the day was with a “Dunkin jelly donut” and a hot cup of black coffee.
She spent a career at John Hancock, Quincy as a mutual fund administrator, she taught English as a second langauge at Carney Hospital Outreach Programs. Upon retiring from John Hancock she dedicated many hours with Weymouth Elder Services serving on the Executive Board of Elder Services and Friends of the Council on Aging.
Her last two years of life she spent at The Cordwainer Senior Community in Norwell. She made many new friends and memories there. She will be missed by all who loved her!
