Dorothy A. Flaherty

Flaherty, Dorothy A. (Harney), a lifelong resident of South Boston, passed away August 17, 2015 with her children by her side. 

Dorothy was a devout Catholic, attending Sts. Peter and Paul, and St. Augustine churches. She had a great sense of humor and could always make you smile. 

Through the years, Dot enjoyed walks around Castle Island, swimming at Lagoon beach, knitting, crocheting, playing piano, and hosting St. Patrick’s Day gatherings alongside her husband Patrick. She loved making home movies and taking photos of every occasion 

Dot dedicated her life and career to helping others. Her multi-decade social work career began and ended at Laboure Center in South Boston where her passion was helping elders. After retiring, she voluntarily continued to help elders stay in their own homes and frequently visited those in senior housing and nursing homes. 

Dot didn’t hesitate when it came time to care for her mother, husband, and eldest daughter at her home in their time of need. She will be missed, but will forever remain in our hearts.

Beloved wife of the late Patrick Lawrence Flaherty. Devoted mother of Deborah Clark and her husband Robert of Dexter, ME, Daniel Flaherty and his wife Sandra of Weymouth, and the late Doreen Flaherty. Loving sister of Margaret Hoenshell of Stow, Frances Moriarty of Abington, and the late Agnes Bassett, John “Buddy” Harney, and Eleanor Nee. Cherished grandmother of James Flaherty and his wife Rachel. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday 3-7 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home Tuesday at 8:30 AM prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Augustine’s Chapel, South Boston, at 10 AM. Burial in MA National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to Catholic Charities, Elder Services 51 Sleeper Street, Boston, MA 02210.
