Madden, Dorothea A. (Dempsey) Brown of Norwood January 31, 2006. Loving mother of Dorothea A. Brown of Brookline and M. Carol & her husband Jeremiah P. Grady of Rockland, ME. Sister of Delores & her late husband William Jennings of Foxboro, William Dempsey of Wellesley, Gerard Dempsey & his wife Lucy of Pembroke, the late Claire & her late husband Roger Corcoran, and the late Leo “Buddy” Dempsey, Jr. and his late wife Joyce. Loving grandmother of Kevin P. Tyler of Dorchester, Daniel R. Tyler & his wife Kristin of Sharon and Karen I. & her husband Kevin Giffen of Mansfield. Great grandmother of Nicole Russell of Stoughton, William & Benjamin Giffen of Mansfield and Jonathan Tyler of Sharon. Step mother of Susan, Joanne, Jane L., Kathy and Robert. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, friends and co-workers. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., WOLLASTON, Saturday at 9 AM. Funeral Mass in Saint Ann’s Church, Wollaston at 10 AM. Visiting hours Friday 4-8 PM. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Dorothea A. Dorothea worked as a data processor for Kidde Fenwal (an electronics manufacturing company) in Ashland for 27 years, retiring in 1986. Before she was married, she worked as a professional figure skater, touring with the Ice Capades on the West Coast. In the 1940’s, Dottie won the “Miss Massachusetts” Queen of the Ice Contest, and the “new England Ice Queen” title. She also competed in National “Queen of Ice Title” finishing in the top 6 ranking. Shortly after her figure skating career, she received a contract with Paramount Pictures and moved to Hollywood to begin a career in movies. World War II soon followed and Dorothea’s plans changed. She married and raised her family. Dorothea was a voracious reader. She consumed serious non-fiction books, often reading 3 or 4 books consecutively. She enjoyed a wide range of subjects including history, politics, business, sports and geography. She will be greatly missed by her family.
