Doris Dolbec

Doris Kathleen (Desmond) Dolbec, 85, died November 10 surrounded by her loving family in her home in Squantum.

She was born in Boston on March 19, 1929 to George H. Desmond and Florence Lillian (Meighan) Desmond.

Doris grew up on Beach Street in Wollaston.  She enjoyed summers near the beach and sailing Winabouts with her older brothers, John and Bob, at Wollaston Yacht Club.

She excelled in academics at North Quincy High School and was a popular cheerleader.  Doris graduated from Forsythe Dental School as a Registered Dental Hygienist.  She enjoyed working with young children and teaching dental care at the Quincy Health Center.

Her greatest pleasure was raising her four children.  A devoted mother, she loved family cookouts, weekend boat trips and watching her children discover the fun of sailing in the waters of Quincy Bay.  She looked forward to outdoor family adventures.  Doris particularly enjoyed figure skating and New England Sports Teams.  She passed her love for sports on to her children and grandchildren.  She could always be found on the sidelines of race courses and fields cheering on her children at home or away competitions.

She was a daily communicant of Star of the Sea Church in Squantum until it closed several years ago.

Doris was a longtime member of the Quincy Choral Society and looked forward to their annual concerts and sharing them with friends and family.

She recently celebrated her 60th wedding anniversary to her husband, Robert P. Dolbec.  In addition to her husband she is survived by her children,  Robert P. Jr. and his wife, Mary of Squantum, Kathleen M. Ginley and her husband, James of Franklin, John V. Dolbec and his wife Maria Hoyo of East Bridgewater, and George L. Dolbec and his wife, Therese of Squantum.

She is also survived by her sister, Jeanne Bold of Weymouth and her four children. She was predeceased by her brothers, 1st. Lt. John Desmond and Robert “Unc” Desmond.

Beloved ‘Nana’ to Meredith Ginley, Madeira Ginley, Patrick Ginley, Ciara Ginley, Elyse Dolbec Johnson, Robert P. Dolbec III, Peter Dolbec, John Manuel Dolbec and Matthew Dolbec

A private funeral mass was celebrated with burial in Mt. Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury.   In lieu of flowers a donation may be made in her memory to the Quincy Choral Society, PO Box 108, Wollaston, MA 02170.
