Doris Quinn (Bates) lived, in her own way, an extraordinary life. Although Doris passed after a short illness and hospitalization, Doris, 81, had triumphed through a lifetime of challenges due to cerebral palsy. Doris grew up in Weymouth, but had resided in a residential setting for a number of years.
As happens with the passage of time, Doris’ devoted mother Donnie Bates, her loving father Stanley, and her only sibling and loving brother Earl predeceased her.
Doris’ beloved husband Jack Quinn predeceased her after his lifetime of challenges that necessitated long-time residential care, as well. Their marriage was a fairy tale of sorts as she and Jack met when Doris was in her fifties and they both lived in residential care in Dorchester. When they married, the community and local businesses celebrated their union by generously providing for every detail of their wedding from flowers, to the church, to the food at their reception. Doris cherished her life with Jack and wore her wedding ring with pride.
Doris is survived by her loving sister-in-law Mary McDonough. Nephews Steven Bates (Sherry), John Bates, and Stephen Bates (Nicole); nieces Laurie Keene and Lisa Levine (Micah); and extended family and friends grieve Doris’ passing.
The Massachusetts Cerebral Palsy organization cared for Doris with amazing resources and dedicated staff. Their outstanding service is gratefully acknowledged and appreciated.
