Dorick “Sonny” Corbo

Mr. Dorick E. “Sonny” Corbo, of Weymouth, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 11, 2024. He was 96. Beloved husband of Rosalie (Caloia) Corbo.. for over 57 years. Loving father of James Corbo and and his wife, Kathleen, of Braintree and Teresa Corbo of Weymouth. Cherished Papa to Olivia and Eamon Corbo. Brother of Anne Frazier of Scituate and the late Marie Ortiz. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Born in 1928, Sonny grew up in a close knit neighborhood in East Weymouth.  After graduation from Weymouth High School, Sonny worked for his grandfather’s Blacksmith Shop in South Boston and White Brother’s Milk Company in Quincy.  He spent most of his career as a materials planner at Instron Corporation, retiring in 1991.  He continued to be an active member of the community by volunteering for the Weymouth Food Pantry and doing landscaping design and yard work for his friends and family well into his late eighties.

Sonny was a 1971 Graduate of Boston College, receiving a Bachelor’s in Sociology and passed the State Social Workers Exam.

His true passion was yardwork and landscape design.  He joined the Arnold Arboretum in 1978, taking courses and attending classes which gave him such a strong  knowledge base, friends and family often sought his advice.  He was affectionately referred to as “the shrubologist.”  He still kept up his membership  and looked forward to the quarterly magazine, Arnoldia, so he could study and keep current about the latest happenings in the field.

Sonny was a kind and sweet man who always put his others first.  He and his wife Rosalie would do anything for their children Jim and Teresa and grandchildren, Olivia and Eamon, encouraging and supporting them in all of their interests.

Sonny was a very special person and will be greatly missed.
