Donald V. “Don” Ross, of Squantum, and formerly of South Boston, died peacefully at his home, on Friday, March 29, 2019. He was 86.
Born in South Boston, he was the son of the late James and Margaret Ross. Don attended local schools and graduated from South Boston High School with the Class of 1950. After high school, Don enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served his country during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, Don worked as a Superintendent of ship building for the United States Navy.
In his spare time, Don enjoyed watching sports as he was an avid Boston sports fan. He also enjoyed traveling and one of his favorite places to go was Foxwoods. He was a member of the Quincy Elks and a Past Commander at the Nickerson Post in Squantum. His favorite thing to do was spend time with his family. They are what made him most happy and proud.
Don was the beloved husband of the late Rose M. (King) Ross, who died in 2011. The two married on July 3, 1955 in Boston. Together they shared 56 loving years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Margaret F. Ritchie of Weymouth, Rosemary A. Nunes and her husband Dr. John of CA, Michelle T. Locke of Mashpee and Donald V. Ross Jr. of Quincy. Don was the loving grandfather of Bobby, Amanda, Allison, Thomas, Courtney, Matthew and Nicole. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his siblings.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday, April 5th from 4 through 8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9 AM on Saturday, April 6th prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy at 10 AM.
Services will conclude with interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Boston.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Donald may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
