Donald R. Foster

Donald R. Foster of Weymouth, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2024. He was 89 years old.

Born in Boston he was the son of the late Arthur and Anna Foster (Shaw). Donald was raised in Mattapan. He always fondly remembered helping his grandfather Shaw with farm chores and produce delivery by wagon with Teddy the pony. Summers were spent in Conway, NH. He graduated from Hyde Park High School Class of 1953. Don, a disabled veteran, served as an Army Ranger during the Korean War era. In 1955 he was in advanced leadership training at Ft. Benning, Georgia, and was chosen to be an aide to Audie Murphy, WW2’s most decorated soldier. Don was a semi-pro football player with his brother Ken and cousin Frannie Shaw in the Boston Park League. He was an avid weightlifter and bodybuilder known as “The Silver Fox”. Don was a recognized furniture designer and enjoyed his passion for decorating during the holidays.

Beloved father of Donna M. Foster of Hingham, Diane O’Sullivan of Brockton, Debra (Rev. Dr. Stephen) Mayo of Fitchburg, and the late Donald R. Foster Jr. Cherished grandfather of Christopher (Molly) Sawtelle, Mitchell and Garrett Foster, Cassandra (Jared) Nolin, Caitlin and Stephen Mayo Jr. Loving Uncle of Kenneth Jr, Kevin, and Bryant Foster and Arthur Foster III. Dear brother of the late Arthur Jr. and Kenneth J. Foster. Cherished partner of Sue Arthur of Weymouth. Former husband of Patricia Foster of Hingham. Don will also be missed by many extended family members and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday 3/19 from 3-7 PM at the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street. Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Weymouth Wednesday 3/20 at 10:30 AM. Burial to follow in MA National Cemetery, Bourne.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Donald may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675.
