Donald Kane, beloved husband of more than 53 years to Joanne Kane and proud father of Stacie Dugan (husband Dorsey) of Quincy; Tim Kane (wife Kelly) of Quincy; and Michael Kane (wife Jennifer) of Warner, NH passed away at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with prostate cancer.
Donald was Papa to nine cherished grandchildren - Grace, Liam, Maeve, Zach, Hannah, Nathan, Travis, Kelsey and Felicity- who provided him with boundless joy and countless treasured memories. He excitedly anticipated his annual trips with them to Story Land and Santa’s Village when they were young and cheering them on at their many baseball, softball, lacrosse, soccer and hockey, cheerleading, dancing and gymnastics competitions as they grew. Even during the final days of his courageous battle, Donald yearned to stay current on his grandchildren’s journeys, and never forgot to remind them of how much he loved them.
Donald instilled in his children some of his best traits, including inquisitiveness, persistence, a strong sense of humor and empathy. Donald was always there for a child in need, ensuring all felt welcomed and valued, including when he was coaching soccer and baseball. Donald also loved to help friends, family and neighbors with electric, automotive or other needs using the skills he learned during his education at Don Bosco Technical High School, enlistment with the Army Reserves, 40 years of employment as an Electrician with the Polaroid Corporation and 10 years of employment with the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority.
Donald was the son of the late Patrick and Helen Kane of South Boston and beloved brother to his five siblings, Patricia, Paul, Kevin, Anne-Marie and Arlene. He was also loved by and contributed to the strong bonds his children formed with, his extended family, including his many nieces and nephews.
Donald will be missed by many and forgotten by few.
