Riley, Donald J. Sr. of Quincy April 9, 2003. Ret. QPD Captain died at home after a long illness. Beloved husband of Kathleen P. (Lydon) of Quincy. Loving son of Mrs. Joseph F. Riley of Quincy. Loving father of Michael and his wife Ingrid of Quincy, Donald J. Jr. and his wife Deborah of CA, Susanne O’Neil and her husband David of Quincy, Brenda of Quincy and Patrick and his wife Julie of Quincy. Loving brother of Carol McKeown and her husband Francis of Norwood and Jane Sissons and her husband Christopher of Abington. Cherished Poppa of Rachel and Marisa Riley and Joseph and Emma O’Neil. Brother in law of Joseph and Rita Feeney of Whitman. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Keohane Funeral Home 785 Hancock St. , WOLLASTON Saturday at 9 AM. Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, N. Quincy at 10 AM. Visiting hours Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy. Captain Riley retired from the Police in 2000 after 38 years with the department, 17 of them as the Quincy Police Prosecutor at the Quincy District Court. His final position with the department was as Commanding Officer of the Special Operations Unit where he oversaw projects such as the Community Policing Program and the Harbor Patrol Unit.A lifelong resident of Quincy, he was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Weymouth, Suffolk University and Suffolk University Law School. In 1969 he became the first Quincy Police Officer to graduate from law school and pass the bar exam. Captain Riley was a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Norfolk County Prosecutors Association, and the Knights of Columbus.An avid boater, Captain Riley was a life member of the Squantum Yacht Club where he served as Commodore in 1982 and 1983. He later earned designation as a licensed master of 50-ton ships by the United States Merchant Marine.Donations in memory of Mr. Riley may be made to Sacred Heart School 20 Glover Ave., North Quincy, MA 02171.
