Shelley, Dolores A., age 75, of Hull, passed away December 20, 2012 after a courageous battle with brain cancer surrounded by family and friends. Originally from Pittsburgh PA, Dolores was the beloved daughter of Ralph Shelley and Mary Selkis. Ms. Shelley was the first in her family to graduate from college. Dolores was a professor of literature and creative writing at Stonehill College from 1967-2003 and from 2004 Professor Emerita. She also chaired the English Department from 1986 to 1991. Prior to her tenure at Stonehill she was copy writer for Gimbels in Pittsburgh and later for Jordan Marsh, Boston. She received a B.A. in English and Creative Writing from the University of Pittsburg and a M.A. in English from Boston College and a M.A. in English and Creative Writing from the University of NH. Dolores was a talented writer who had published light fiction, numerous articles, poetry, and short stories. Dolores loved writing, the joy of teaching, sailing, gardening and was widely traveled. She leaves her companion and best friend, Sandra Smith, of Hull. Her dear sister Mae Wetzel and brother-in-law Ken Wetzel, a niece Cynthia Sharkey and her husband Robert, and Kenneth Wetzel, Jr. and his wife Stacey all from Pittsburgh, PA area. Dolores also leaves her extended family Blake, Wendy, Zoey and Eva Joering of Providence, RI. Kim Smith and Matthew Miller of Canal Fulton, OH. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday from 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 AM in the Chapel of Mary at Stonehill College, 320 Washington St., Easton MA 02357. Burial will be private.
