Detra Roberta Towle (“DeeDee”, “Dee”), beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, daughter, and friend, died peacefully on July 2, 2024 in her hometown of Hingham, Massachusetts.
Detra was born on August 29, 1944. Detra’s caring and generous nature was felt by all of those who knew her. Her two passions and loves in life were family and teaching. She was a loved and dedicated mother to Erin Towle-Silva and her husband, Mark Silva and Melissa Towle and a cherished grandmother to her three grandchildren, Caleb Towle-Silva, Connor Towle-Silva, and Olivia Towle with many memories filled with laughter and some mischievousness at times. She was a loyal and loving sister to her eight siblings, Richard Towle Jr. and his wife, Barbara Towle, Natalie Towle (deceased), Douglas Towle (deceased) and his wife, Nancy Towle, Doretha Gurry and her husband, Ed Gurry (deceased), Deborah Deschamps and her husband, Noel Deschamps, Rita Mohr and her husband, Stephen Stella, Marc Mohr (deceased), Dayle Nash and her husband Geoffrey Nash (deceased), Thomas Towle, and Steven Towle and his wife, Marianne Towle and a generous and caring aunt to her countless nieces and nephews who knew her as Aunt DeeDee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Towle Sr. and Dorothy Towle, and her brother, Douglas Towle. She truly believed and lived by family is everything.
Detra truly loved teaching and was a dedicated and hardworking teacher in Norwell, Massachusetts for over 35 years. She found joy and fulfillment in seeing her students learn and accomplish challenging tasks to reach their goals in the classroom. All who were taught by her felt her positive and encouraging attitude and genuine confidence in them. In retirement, she enjoyed her time with family, participating in book club and singing in her church choir.
Detra’s generosity, humor, and love for others will forever be missed but never forgotten. We say goodbye to Detra Roberta Towle, who exhibited unwavering love and devotion to her family. Her memory will be treasured forever. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, July 18th 3-6pm at Keohane Pyne Funeral Home in Hingham and the funeral service will be held at 10am on Friday, July 19th at St. Paul’s in Hingham. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Dana Farber.
