Desmond J. “Jim” Evans

Evans, Desmond J. “Jim” of Quincy, formerly of Dorchester, died October 7, 2015.

Jim was born in County Monaghan, Ireland, and came to the U.S. as a young child. He was the devoted husband of Helen (Rull) Evans for 63 years. He adored his wife, children, grandchildren and most recently, his great-grandchild.

Jim served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Cincinnati during WWII and was awarded the Unit Commendation Medal. He was a member of the “Greatest Generation”. He was also proud to be a union man and member of I.B.E.W. Local 103. Jim took great pride in his Irish heritage and weekends were always filled with Irish music which he loved so much. He was an avid fan of Notre Dame “Fighting Irish” football. He was a member of the Morrisette Legion Post, Disabled American Veterans and the Castle Island Association.

To his family and friends, Jim was a man of true integrity. In addition to his wife, he was the loving father of Patricia Wolongevicz and her husband James of Hanover, James M. Evans of Quincy, Maureen Schnur and her husband Rick of Framingham, and Bob Evans and his wife Mary of Quincy. He was Beepa to James, Kerry, Daniel and Christopher Wolongevicz; Sarah and Ariel Schnur; and Ryan, Colin and Quinlan Evans and Great-Beepa to Aaron Wolongevicz. Brother of the late Margaret Kinsella, Mary Gill, Martina Benoit, Patricia, John, Joseph, Emmett and Francis Evans. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, October 12th from 4-8 p.m. at the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday October 13th prior to the funeral mass in St. Ann’s Church, 757 Hancock St., Quincy at 10:30 a.m. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jim may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
