Dennis J. Haley, of Hingham, passed away surrounded by his loving family on October 2, 2023. He was 80 years old.
Born in Weymouth, he was the son of the late Joseph and Glenda (Gavin) Haley. Dennis grew up in Randolph where he met the love of his life, Sheila (Almon), and they were married in 1966 at St. Mary’s Church. On October 1st, the day before he passed, Dennis and Sheila celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary.
Dennis graduated from Boston College in 1965 and shortly thereafter began his career of 36 years with Ernst & Young. The family relocated to Bedford, NH in 1978 when Dennis was named Managing Partner of the Manchester, NH office, a role he held for 17 years. He returned to Boston in 1995 as the Managing Partner of Assurance & Advisory Business Services for New England. Then, in 1999, he served as the Professional Practice Director for New England, advising clients on technical accounting matters until his retirement in 2001.
Dennis and Sheila moved to Hingham where they enjoyed his retirement for many years. He could often be found with friends on the golf course at Black Rock Country Club, attending his grandchildrens’ various activities, and enjoying the beautiful life he and Sheila built together. Their Cape Cod home in Harwich Port became a gathering place for their family, many lifelong friends, and extended family from near and far. Dennis could often be seen on the front porch reading the newspaper or playing cards and extending a friendly hello to his friends and neighbors as they walked to the beach.
Dennis volunteered for many nonprofit and charitable organizations over the years. Of his many outside board activities, Dennis enjoyed being Chairman of the Finance Committee of Resurrection Parish in Hingham.
Dennis was loved by many and his influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew him. He was the devoted husband of Sheila Haley; loving father of William Haley and his wife Stephanie of Milford, Dennis J. Haley, Jr. and his wife Daphne of Bedford, NH, Patrick Haley of Hingham, and Karen Koopman and her husband James of Weymouth. Cherished brother of Paul Haley, Kathleen Nestor, Robert Haley, the late Joseph Haley, and the late Gerald Haley.
