Dennis proudly served in the US Army Special Forces (Green Berets) in Vietnam and was both a Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient. He went on to serve the Plymouth community as a police officer for 15 years and was instrumental in the initiation of the K9 unit in his department. Dennis was a gun safety enthusiast and worked as a firearms instructor for Brinks and was a member of the Holbrook Gun Club, Weymouth Sportsman Club and National Rifle Association. He was also a certified hypnotist and past business owner of a video store. Dennis loved to share stories of his trips to Thailand and love of elephants.
