Demetra Booras, a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, died peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday January 23rd after a long illness at the Hellenic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Canton. The longtime Hull resident was 92. Demetra was born and grew up in Gargaliani, Messinia in Greece and immigrated to the United States in 1955 with her husband, Dionisios, and her four young children. Demetra was a highly respected woman by her large loving family, many friends, and her congregation. Demetra, or more fondly remembered as Yia Yia, devoted her life to her very close knit loving family by instilling the importance of tradition, being together, and tireless love. Demetra was a talented seamstress that worked for many years for Local 33 of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers Union. Demetra was a very devoted parishioner of the Panagia Greek Orthodox Church in Cohasset and was recognized for her devotion and work for the church as she was awarded The Diocese Laity Award. Demetra is survived by four children, Maria Georgaklis and her husband Peter of Quincy, Evelyn Kiramarios and her husband Reverend John of Brockton, Harry Booras and his wife Jennifer of Hull, and Peter Booras and his wife KiKi of Cohassett. Demetra also leaves fourteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren. Demetra is predeceased by her husband of almost 50 years Dionisios Booras. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM, Wednesday at 10:15 AM. Funeral Service in Panagia Greek Orthodox Church, Cohasset at 11AM. Visiting hours Tuesday 5-8 PM. Burial in Hull Village Cemetery, Hull. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to to the Panagia Greek Orthodox Church, 811 Jerusalem Road, Cohasset MA, 02025.
