Mr. David Pinkus of Hingham and Wellfleet, formerly of Dorchester, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on September 4, 2015, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Boston, son of the late Jacob and Lena (Mattekawska) Pinkus, he was one of the founders of Pinkus Electric in Dorchester and was later a State electrician in the traffic control department. David served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1947 on the USS Canberra, CA-70, commissioned in 1943. David served overseas in the Pacific during World War II. He received the Asiatic Pacific ribbon, (9 stars), American Area medal, Philippine Liberation medal, and the World War II medal. David attended Wentworth Institute and was a past president of the Hingham/Hull VFW Post 1787. He was also a member of the Quincy Lodge of Elks. He loved going to Wellfleet and enjoyed fishing, boating and clamming. David and his wife enjoyed travelling to Hawaii and staying at the Hale Koa miltary hotel in Honolulu with some of their best friends. David enjoyed being with his family and will be dearly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He was the beloved husband of 67 years to Elizabeth A. (Nelson) Pinkus. Loving father of Janice Henley and her husband, Jack, of Hingham, Steven Pinkus and his wife, Betsy, of Cohasset, Jeffrey Pinkus and his wife, Barbara, of Cohasset, Kimberly Hannon and her husband, Mark, of Hanover, Suzanne Hoffses and her husband, Stephen, of Hingham, and the late David Pinkus of Hingham. Gramps to John, Jeffrey, Jason, Jared, Nichole, Beau, Danielle, William, Kyle, Christina, Brittany, Kayley, Sydney, Andrew, Bridget and Madeline. Great Gramps to Jason, Sophie, Emily, Jennavieve, Cole and Maggie. Devoted brother to the late Sam, Joseph, Daniel, Esther and Anna Pinkus. Also survived by many nieces and one late nephew.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday 3-7 P.M. in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital), followed by his Funeral Service at 7 p.m. Burial will be private.
