David L. Wightman

Wightman, David L., age 73, of Hingham, Massachusetts passed away at home on Monday, July 19th after a brave battle with cancer. David grew up in Hamburg, New York and was the child of Alice (Kelsey) Wightman and Walter D. Wightman, a 33rd degree Mason. He graduated from the Univ. of Buffalo with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and lived in Hamburg until joining the United States Navy where he served honorably as a Lieutenant and Engineering Officer on the U.S.S. Moale in the 1960’s with cruises taking him throughout the Atlantic Mediterranean, Persian Gulf and Caribbean where he was present during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After finishing active duty, David came to Massachusetts where he met and married his loving wife of 44 years, Nora (Bushey) Wightman formerly of Hull, MA. David worked for W.R. Grace & Co. for 33 years in their offices in Cambridge and Chicago, IL and served as the North American Vice President of Administration for the Construction Products Division until his retirement. David was an activist for quality education and community involvement serving on the Board of Directors for the United Way of Massachusetts Bay he was Chair of the Massachusetts State Science and Engineering Fair and was a member of the Hingham Education Foundation. David also served on the Board of Directors for the Hingham Institution for Savings and as Second Vice President and Chair of Community Outreach for the Massachusetts Chemical Technology Alliance. Throughout his life David had a genuine love of baseball, football and the American Dream. He enjoyed spending time with his family in Denmark, Maine where he leaves many friends and wonderful memories. David is survived by his wife of 44 years, Nora (Bushey) Wightman formerly of Hull, Massachusetts, his son Brian and wife Madeline (Torres) Wightman of Media, Pennsylvania, his daughter Leigh (Wightman) Long and husband David Long of Bridgewater, Massachusetts his beloved brother Graham D. Wightman and his wife Dee (Croft) Wightman of Caton, NY. David is the loving “Grandpa” of Edward Daniel Wightman and Samantha Josephine Wightman Long. David is the beloved cousin to Susanne K. (Black) Fone and the late Kenneth W. Fone of Cohasset, MA and Denmark, ME, brother-in-law to Eleanor (Bushey) Kerrissey of Hingham, MA and Marion (Perry) Bushey and the late Lt. Col. George D. Bushey of Niceville, FL, Gerard W. Pyne and Joan (Bushey) Pyne of Hingham, MA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who he loved very much. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours Friday 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A funeral service in celebration of David’s life will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 10:30 AM. Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hingham.
