David L. Kelly

David Lawrence Francis Michael Kelly, of many places, most recently Weymouth, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was 63 years young.

Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1959 to Anthony and Evelyn (Mailey) Kelly, he was the fifth of seven children, whom he loved dearly. David met the woman of his dreams, Sheelagh, in Scotland in the mid 1980’s and the two have been inseparable since. They traveled the world together… gave birth to their daughter Holly in the Netherlands, their son Craig in Ireland, and eventually settled down in Bedford, Massachusetts where they spent their years engaging with the community and enthusiastically participating in their children’s lives.

David was a family man through and through. He enjoyed taking holidays with his family, capturing sports moments through his love of photography, and spending lots of early retirement days hiking. He made everyone’s day brighter when he was around. David was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, commonly known as ALS or Motor Neuron Disease (MND), at the age of 59. David, although partially handicapped the last year of his life, enjoyed going out to dinner with his family, spending time speaking with his family over in Ireland and Vancouver over Zoom, and dancing and singing his way through life. He was cherished and loved so much, and will be truly missed by all who knew him.

David is survived by his wife Sheelagh, daughter Holly, son Craig and daughter-in-law Leah. His late brother Peter and wife Diane Kelly of England. His brother Michael and late wife Helen Kelly, brother Greg and wife Violet Kelly, brother Gerard and wife Geraldine Kelly, and sister Bernie Kelly, all of Northern Ireland. His sister Colette and husband Karel Otcenasek of Canada. His nephew Ciarán Kelly, niece Rachel and husband Chris Tully, nephew Richard Kelly, late niece Victoria Kelly, niece Maya Kelly, sister-in-law Gabriel and husband Justin Knight, all of Northern Ireland. His sister-in-law Myra and husband David Thom, niece Danielle and husband Leo Runswick-Thom, niece Stevie Thom and partner Andrew, and great nephew Freddie of Jersey, Channel Islands. His great niece Aoife and great nephew Lewis of Northern Ireland. As well as many friends, coworkers, and extended family from all over.
