David A. Doody

David A. Doody, formerly of Hingham, passed away in Raleigh, NC on June 22 at the age of 77.

Born in Cambridge, MA, he was the son of James and Julia (Poston) Doody. David was raised in East Boston’s Maverick Square, where many fond childhood memories were forged, before moving to Hingham. David was predeceased by his beloved wife of 40 years, Jo-Ann E. (Butler). Both shared a love of family, friends, cooking, reading, the beach and mischief. They are survived by four children: Lisa D. Gates (Jack) of Scituate, Stephen R. Doody (Kristina) of Canton, Robyn E. Griffin (Timothy) of Marshfield, Lynda A. Caristi (Kenneth) of Scituate, 11 cherished grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Dear brother of Marie Carbone of Plainville, CT, Carol of Hanover, Louis of Hilo, HI, John of Marshfield and Helen of Hanson.

David was honorably discharged from the United States Army after serving with the Eighth Infantry Division in Baumholder, Germany. While helping to raise four kids, he earned a degree from Thomas Aquinas College and worked with his brother John to build a thriving drain cleaning business. David also worked at the James River Paper Mill in Hyde Park and spent many years as a “chef” at The Venetian in Weymouth, where he worked with a wonderful assemblage of sweethearts and rogues that enjoyed a game-of-chance and a taste-of-the-creature.

For the past twelve years, David has lived in Spring Hope, NC and Conway, SC with his wife Mary. With his sharp wit and friendly manner, he mixed effortlessly into his new Southern surroundings and quickly won the friendship and admiration of longtime residents and newcomers alike. While in the Carolinas, he enjoyed remodeling projects, feeding ducks in the backyard, helping neighbors and rooting on the Patriots from afar.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9 AM on Saturday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Church, Hingham at 10 AM. Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hingham.
