Daniel John Lahiff

Daniel John Lahiff of Hingham, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on January 5, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 65.

Born in Cambridge on 9/24/1959 to the late Catherine “Kay” and Michael Lahiff, Dan was raised in Somerville and graduated from Matignon High School and Suffolk University, where he played basketball and began friendships that would last a lifetime.

Dan is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Mary Ellen, their daughter Meaghann and sons Brendan and Matthew. He is also survived by his siblings, Michael Lahiff and his wife Ann of Melrose, Rosemary O’Malley and her husband Mark of Canton, John Lahiff and his wife Kathy of Norwell, Claire Rafferty and her husband John of Reading, Anne Bulger and her husband Patrick of Norwell, Kevin Lahiff and his wife Alison of North Attleboro, Carol Lahiff of Somerville, Paul Lahiff and Maria of Canton, Stephen Lahiff and his wife Amy of Attleboro. He will also be missed by his Mother-in-Law Ann Carlisle of Centerville, Sisters-in-Law Sharon and Cathleen Carlisle of Centerville, Brother-in-Law Michael Carlisle and his wife Ellen of Medway and Brother-in-Law Thomas Carlisle of Braintree. Dan is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends.

Dan spent his entire working career in Accounting/Financial roles with Shawmut Bank, The Boston Company, Inc and most recently in the Bank of New York Wealth Control group.

Dan appreciated many of the simple things in life like watching football, hanging out with friends, doing small jobs around the house and most importantly, being a devoted family man. His happiest days were spent coaching, attending, supporting and cheering on his children at dance recitals, swim meets and countless soccer, football and baseball games and tournaments. He also volunteered for the Town of Hingham 4th of July Parade Committee organizing the music bands on parade day. He was an active Eucharistic Minister and member of the Pre-Cana Marriage program at his beloved St. Paul’s Church.

Since being diagnosed with cancer a little over 3 years ago, he never stopped fighting and lived his life to the fullest. His strength was admirable and will never be forgotten by those who knew him best.
