Dana P. Smith

Smith, Dana Paul of Quincy, originally from Neponset (OFD), passed away unexpectedly at Quincy Medical Center on Saturday the 22nd of May, surrounded by his loving family. Devoted husband of Joan Carr Smith and loving father of Susan Goodwin & her husband Bob of Weymouth, Diane Smith of Weymouth, and Nancy Smith of Walpole. Dana was the proud grandfather of Robert, Dana and Jenna Goodwin. Dana is survived by his brother Edward Smith of Weymouth & his wife Rose and their families. Dana is predeceased by his wife Patricia Geary Smith, his brother Lester Smith, and his sister Elaine Black. He enjoyed the friendship and love of many nieces and nephews. Born in Dorchester, Dana attended St. Ann School in Neponset, Boston State Teacher’s College and Bridgewater State College. He was a proud Army veteran and a dedicated teacher in the Quincy Public Schools for 39 years, teaching at South Jr. High (Sterling), Quincy High School, where he also served as head guidance counselor, and running the Adult Night Program in Quincy. Dana was a proud American; a member of the North Quincy Council of the K of C, the V.F.W., an usher at St. Ann’s Church and a CCD teacher. He enjoyed traveling and golf with his buddies on the “Senior Tour”. The results of his talents are evidenced by the hand carved tavern signs which many received as gifts and his pride and joy, the Eagle, which proudly hangs on his home.
