Curtis G. Rand

Rand, Curtis G. of Hingham, With typical quietness and grace, Buzzy as his family and friends affectionately knew him,  passed away at home watching his beloved birds on April 10th.

He had lived with a difficult set of medical challenges the last 2 years which left him in a wheelchair and with many limitations.   He shared his gratitude for his long life, his family, his faith, and his ability to spend his last year in his home finding some peace and joy.  He had begun his life in Nova Scotia with his Mom, Daisy ,and Dad, Fred, and two brothers Bob and Fred.  They moved to Dorchester when he was 3.   He joined the Navy at 17 and was sent to the Philippines in WW II where he earned 4 medals and helped with landing craft and support.  He was the youngest of three brothers who all served in the war, and he was determined to serve as well, requiring his parents’ permission to enlist.

After the war, he began a career in trade and then in engineering.   He married Alberta Wadland and had healthy three children.   He always loved and supported the Elks organization and was a lifetime member.  He loved their charitable work and was a charter member for the Weymouth Lodge.  He also served as Exalted Ruler and all the other chairs.   He enjoyed the positive values of church and of the Elks charity work and spent most of his time, not with his family, supporting these causes.   He created his own engineering company, Industrial and Commercial Engineers in 1965, which was successful for 44 years and build many buildings in Massachusetts and other states.   He loved the creative part of his work and was always trying to find better ways to engineer buildings and make them more energy efficient.  He did not retire until he was 82.  He also volunteered on several public buildings assisting his daughter who was Director of Health in Santa Cruz County California with HVAC and similar issues.   He loved to be busy and useful, and have a good martini and happy hour at the end of the day.

He said the most precious thing about the last difficult year was having his 3 children and their families so close to him and with him so often.  He also welcomed his first great granddaughter into the world this year.  His family which honors and will miss him includes  John Rand (son), Debbie Cardinal Rand (daughter in law), Michael Rand (grandson), Nick Rand, (grandson); Donna Prinsen (daughter), Wietze Prinsen (son in Law), Caitlin Prinsen (granddaughter), Rama Khalsa, aka Sharon Rand (daughter), Siri Comeau McDonald (granddaughter), Dayal Khalsa (grandson), Joseph McDonald(Grandson in Law), and Lucille Kirin Comeau McDonald (great granddaughter). He had two deceased brothers Robert Kennedy Rand and Fred Rand as well as many other family and friends  too numerous to list.
