Coleman J. Joyce

Coleman Joseph Joyce of Weymouth passed away January 8, 2023.  He was 88 years young.

Known as Coley to many and Joe to family, he was born to the late Colman and Mary Joyce in Boston, and grew up in Southie. Joe began dating his future bride Peg when they were in high school. After graduating high school Joe joined the U.S. Navy and served his country as a Sonar operator on the submarine USS Irex SS-482 until April of 1957. One month later, Joe and Peg wed and moved to Weymouth. The pair would remain married until Peg’s passing over 62 years later. During this time Joe graduated from Newbury College and spent his career at Boston Gas where he made many lifelong friends. The couple also would welcome four beautiful daughters, multiple grandchildren, and even great grandchildren. Joe was lucky enough to find love again late in life with his new partner Dorothy. The two enjoyed spending time together in New York and when apart spending hours on the phone chatting or watching their rival sports teams.

Joe was a man of many interests. He played softball into his 70s and golfed until recently. Joe was a licensed pilot and was thrilled to take his family on flights in his own small plane to enjoy the view. Joe and Peg had a second home in Poinciana, Florida where they spent their winters, spending time at Disney and other Orlando parks. He was a lifelong Boston sports fan. His family was so important to him and he cherished the time he had with every one of them. Aside from family, his faith was also important to him and he could be found at Sacred Heart Church every Saturday for the 4 PM Mass.

Joe was the beloved Husband of the late Peg Joyce. Loving Father of Peg Dewey and her husband Gray, Maureen Dustin and her husband Dan, Karen Libby and her husband Steve, as well as Diane Dustin and her husband Duffy, all of Weymouth. Loving Grandfather to Gray, Elise, Steven, Brian, Camberleigh, Derek and Alyssa. Adoring Great Grandfather to Amari, Saleema, Jewelia and Luca. Brother to Paul Joyce and his wife Kathleen of Quincy. Cherished Companion to Dorothy Ballone of New York and will be missed by her family and friends who welcomed him with loving arms. Joe is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
