Clement Ferris Mccarey

Clement Ferris McCarey, of Hingham, died peacefully on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth after a very short illness. He was 78.

Clem was the beloved husband of Lorraine Blackwood (Bowness) McCarey, with whom he shared 52 loving years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Grant F. McCarey of California and Lynda-Anne B. McCarey of Boston.

Clem was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on September 9, 1945, and was the son of the late John Ferris and Annie (Seaton) McCarey. He was raised and educated in Belfast where he attained the highest degree available and was elected a member of The Institution of Structural Engineers.

Clem and Lorraine met in June of 1969, when he started a new job at a structural engineering firm where Lorraine was working. They married in September of 1972 and made a home in Bangor, County Down, Northern Ireland. After four years of marriage, they started a family. Clem loved sports and was always playing cricket, golf, or rugby.

In 1983 Clem, Lorraine and family immigrated to the United States where they settled in Hingham. He was highly involved in his children’s activities, from coaching soccer teams to volunteering at school and church activities. Clem had a successful career as a highly respected structural engineer, eventually taking over ownership of the company where he worked for many years until his retirement. Upon retirement, Clem and Lorraine continued their love of travel and always looked forward to visits back to Northern Ireland to see friends and family. He especially enjoyed reuniting with their rugby friends. Clem continued to give back to the community, volunteering with the Hingham Elder Care Services and serving on the Senior Center Building Committee.

Clem was a kind and generous person who would always put family and friends first. Many may remember Clem as quiet and reserved, however his rugby friends would beg to differ. He loved the “Norn Iron” craic, and his quick wit was enjoyed by all. He will be greatly missed by those that had the pleasure of knowing him.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service on Friday, May 10, 2024, at 11 AM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. Interment is private.
