Clement A. O’Brien, Jr., age 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 30, 2023, after battling brain cancer.
He was born in Boston on February 8, 1944, the second of six children, to the late Clement A. and Catherine (Barnes) O’Brien. Clem graduated from Sacred Heart High School (61), Stonehill College (65), and Boston College School of Social Work. Clem worked at the Brockton VA Medical Center for 30 years, dedicating his life to helping combat veterans, especially those who served in Vietnam. He welcomed each veteran without judgement and treated all with respect. He saw to it that those with PTSD received support and treatment. These veterans were his heroes and his friends. The Marines of Quincy made him an Honorary United States Marine, noting “Your decades of counseling, treating and befriending Disabled Veterans saved hundreds of lives.” “Semper Fidelis.”
Clem was the loving partner of Margaret (Peg) Hannigan for twenty-five years. In addition to Peg, he is survived by his son Timothy C. (Maureen) of Newington, Connecticut, Rosemarie (Donald) DeRosa of Norwood, Christine Forbes of Merrimack, NH, and numerous nieces and nephews.
