Claire I. Morrissey

Claire I. (Dalton) Morrissey, age 76, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on January 7, 2021 at BID Plymouth.

Born in Boston, MA, Claire was the daughter of James P. and Doris Mae (Ballem) Dalton.  Growing up in Dorchester Claire was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and later St. Kevin’s. She graduated from Cardinal Cushing Central High School class of 1961. She was a member of the St. Kevin’s Drum & Bugle Corps.  After living for more than 50 years in Roxbury and Dorchester, Claire had recently moved to Weymouth to be closer to her family.

Claire worked at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Dorchester as a Telecommunications Administrator for over twenty years until it closed in 1993. By 1984 Claire had already opened her home and her heart to serve as a foster mother to older children, then in 1993 she extended that loving care to any and all age groups, newborns to teens. She mentored and guided dozens of children over the course of her 25 plus years as a foster mother.

Claire enjoyed her coffee, reading, word searches, listening to music, crocheting, bowling, dancing and spending time with her friends. She enjoyed being a member of the Weymouth Elks and participating in as many events as she could.  Claire’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family, both immediate and extended. Claire will be remembered as a kind and loving mother, grandmother sister, aunt and friend. She cared for others more than herself and leaves a legacy of compassion and loyalty. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Claire was the beloved mother of Joseph C. Morrissey and his wife Christine of Middleboro, Nicholas Morrissey of Whitman and his wife Tatiana, Sarah Morrissey of Weymouth and her infant son John Peter who pre-deceased her.  She was the cherished Nana of nine grandchildren: Joseph, Megan and Ryan Morrissey, Nicholas, Annabel and Anthony Morrissey, Aidan and Peyton Morrissey and Jameson Macomber.  Loving sister of June Meade of AZ, Doris Marshall of Quincy, Mary Dalton of Braintree and the late Georgia Larsen, Jim Dalton and Richard Dalton. Claire is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, friends and many former foster children.

Rest in peace Claire – our love goes with you.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2021 from 3-6 PM at the Keohane Funeral Home, Hancock Street, Quincy.
