Christopher Arnsby “Chris” Herbert

Christopher Arnsby Herbert, of Hingham, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Webster Park Rehabilitation in Rockland. He was 77.

Chris was born in Providence, Rhode Island on August 28, 1945, and was the son of the late Raymond and Sabine (Smith) Herbert. He was raised in Smithfield, Rhode Island, and graduated from Classical High School in Providence. Chris completed his undergraduate education at Boston University and later earned his master’s in social work from Smith College. Chris was a licensed clinical social worker for the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health. His expertise in emergency psychiatry and dedication to his clients garnered tremendous respect from his colleagues. He loved his career and the relationships he built throughout the years.

Chris was a kind, generous and selfless man. He was known for possessing every type of intelligence: encyclopedic, emotional, social, and beyond. Chris was a well-rounded man with a well-rounded heart and mind. A man of eclectic tastes and enormous amounts of love. He had so much charisma, wit, and loyalty that you couldn’t help but give that love back.

His life lessons and example are part of his legacy that continue through his family and friends. He will be missed by all the lives he touched.

Chris was the beloved husband of Mary E. “Meg” Gibbons, and was the devoted and proud father of Sarah E. Herbert, both of Hingham. He was the dear brother of Raymond Herbert and his wife Connie of California, and the loving cousin of Marie Paquet Nesson and her husband Jero of Cambridge, Phil Paquet and his wife Gerry of Framingham, Janine Paquet of Framingham, Kathy Young, and her husband Steven of Boston, and Richard Torsney of Marshfield. Chris is also survived by many friends.

Chris’s Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at 12 PM in Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

Chris will be interred privately in Cedar Brook Burial Ground, Limington, Maine.
