Christine Bates-Bankus

Christine Bates-Bankus, of Holbrook, passed away, unexpectedly, in the early hours of January 5, 2015. She was 62. A native and longtime resident of North Weymouth, she was known to her family and friends as Chris, Chrissy, Mom and Grammy and will be dearly missed by all. 

Born on July 5, 1952 to the late Virginia Nelson Bates and Clifford O. Bates, both of North Weymouth, she was a proud graduate of the 1970 class of Weymouth North High School. Upon graduating she began her career with the telephone company, then MA Bell, and had an illustrious career spanning 30 years until her retirement from Lucent Technologies in 2000. Funny, kind, generous and loving, Christine enjoyed sewing, was a voracious reader, loyal friend and enjoyed playing word games, cribbage and coloring with her grandchildren. She was an active member and volunteer for Long Island Bulldog Rescue, an English Bulldog Rescue covering the entire Northeast region. 

 She is survived by her father Clifford O. Bates and his longtime partner Cathryn P. Venti of North Weymouth; her husband Donald J. Bankus of Holbrook; her daughter Heather Kitterick-Bates, currently of Rhode Island; her four beloved grandchildren Jarrett, Chloe, Maura and Brady; cousins Donna Konkol of New Hampshire and Ricky Bates of Maine and their families and countless close friends. She was predeceased by her mother Virginia and brother Steven. 

 Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday 3-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off RT.3A-Bicknell Sq.) 

Funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 7 PM.
