Charles R. Thurston

Thurston, Charles Richard of Hingham died August 6, 2014.

Beloved husband of Justine (Walden) of Hingham.  Loving father of Charles W. Thurston and his wife Colleen of North Carolina, Geoffrey Thurston and his wife Maureen of Jupiter, Florida, Dr. Garrett S. Thurston and his wife Lisa of  of Lowell and Wells, Maine and Justine Stacie Stuart-Tilley of Canton. Son of the late Charles E. Thurston and Eleanor G. Neagle of Milton.  Brother of John R. Thurston of Marshfield, his wife Joan and the late Joan Donovan and Susan Clancy.  Cherished grandfather of Charles R. Thurston, Mary V. Thurston, Margaret I. Thurston,Caroline E. Thurston, Nicole M. Thurston, Joshua S. Thurston and Robin K. Stuart-Tilley.  Charles is also lovingly survived by several nieces and nephews.

Richard was born and raised in Milton.  He was a graduate of Milton High School 1950 and  Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine Class of 1954. Charles entered the Army and then, went to work at Bailey and Weston, Inc. in Boston with his Father and Grandfather in 1954 until 1996, manufacturing window shades and drapery hardware, he  later became President. Richard was married on September 26, 1959 to Justine L. (Walden) Thurston of Milton.  They purchased a home in Hingham where they have lived for 55 years.  Charles, better known as Richard,  served as a lector at St. Paul’s Church for 50 years and always enjoyed his task. He faithfully attended the early bird group of the YMCA to exercise and swim every morning for 30 years. Richard loved his stamp collection and discussions of hockey, politics, and religion. He was an avid reader any time any place. He always loved fishing in Hingham Harbor.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Saturday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Church, Hingham at 10 AM. Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hingham.
