Charles F. Gillis

Charles F. Gillis, of Whitman, passed away on August 23, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 70.

Charles “Chick” was born and raised in Weymouth, before moving to Whitman in 1983. Chick had many interests including kayaking, woodcarving, hiking and golfing. He was an avid runner who ran the Boston marathon many times and raised thousands of dollars for cancer research along the way. He volunteered at the Pine Street Inn, driving there every Friday for over a decade. He was also a proud and devoted member of AA for over 40 years and formed lasting bonds with many of his friends from his Bridgewater group and beyond. Chick helped countless people find their way and was an inspiration to everyone he met, always maintaining a positive attitude. Chick retired in 2020 after founding and co-owning AMI Machining in Middleboro, MA for 25 years with his friend and partner Paul Singley. Above all else Chick was a family man, spending countless hours making everyone feel special and loved. 

Beloved husband of Wendy J. (Reidy) Gillis of Whitman. 

Loving father of Ian C. Gillis and his fiance, Jill Butler of Weymouth, and Kacey P. Frazier and her husband, Nathan, of Bridgewater. Grandfather (“Pops”) of Livvy and Grady Frazier.

Brother of Paula Edwards and her husband, Edward, of Stoughton, Patty Mitchell and (Rich) of Whitman, and the late John Gillis and Sue McKay. 

Brother in law of Kelly and (Tony), of Weymouth, Kerry and (Laurie), of Norton, Stacy and (Julia) of Mattapoisett, Chris and (Trish) of Whitman, Kathy and (Bob) of Maine, Joey McKay of Florida and the late Holly Campbell (William Campbell)

Also survived by many nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends, including Jimmy Schneider, Joey McDougal, and Steve Corcoran.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday from 4-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). 

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 30th at Immaculate Conception Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mass General Hospital Cancer Center, 55 Fruit Street, Boston, MA 02114.
