Flaherty, Charles F., Jr. "Bud" of North Quincy, died August 26, 2024. He was 84.

Born in Dorchester on February 25, 1940, he was the son of the late Charles Francis and Rita (Flanagan) Flaherty.  He moved to North Quincy at a young age, where he was a lifelong resident, and graduated from Archbishop Williams High School in 1958.

Bud spent 6 years in the Navy as an aviation machinist, spending most of his time on aircraft carriers in the Mediterranean Sea. He enjoyed recounting his time in the Navy to family and friends, and was proud to have served his country. After his service, Bud graduated from Boston College in 1968, and became a devout BC Eagles football fan, holding season tickets and attending every home game.

For 40 years, Bud shaped young minds as a special education teacher in the Boston Public Schools, primarily at Dorchester High School, where his patience and compassion left an indelible mark on countless students. Beyond the classroom, he managed his own tax business for over 50 years.

Bud was a man of unwavering devotion to his family, friends, and his faith. Together with his late wife Patricia, with whom he shared a profound love of adventure, Bud explored the far corners of the globe, leaving no destination untouched by their curious spirits. His heart also found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether he was skiing the slopes of Tenney Mountain, boating from the Squantum Yacht Club, or having family and friends over to his pool.

Bud's legacy is one of kindness, humility and generosity-traits that endeared him to all that had the privilege of knowing him. His easy-going nature, coupled with a true gentleman's spirit, made him a beacon of warmth and decency in the lives he touched. Bud will be profoundly missed.

Beloved husband for 55 years of the late Patricia (O'Connor) Flaherty. Loving father of Maureen E. Slattery and her late husband Joseph of Norwood, Daniel O. Flaherty and his wife Kirsten of Quincy, Susan P. Murray and her husband Michael of Milton, Kevin E. Flaherty of Quincy, and father-in-law of Cheryl Flaherty of Pembroke. He was the devoted "Papa" to Liam, Caitlin, Brendan, Olivia, Grace, Danny, Lauren, Patrick, Luke, and Alexandra. Cherished brother of Richard "Dick" Flaherty of NM and RI, and the late Patricia K. Burrows-Flood. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
