Charles D. Jaehnig, Sr.

Jaehnig, Charles D., Sr. “Charlie” of Quincy, died July 7, 2015.

Charlie’s life centered around his loving family, his deep faith, and strong sense of community.  He and his beloved wife Joan raised seven active boys in a community they loved.  He cherished the vacation time spent at Newfound Lake NH; a 50 year tradition.  Charlie had been a longtime organizer of the activities that everyone enjoyed at camp; including baseball, softball, mountain climbing, and of course the song sheets for the campfire.  A 50 year parishioner at St. Joseph’s Church; Charlie was a member of the Holy Name Society, a Eucharistic Minister, and longtime Usher.  He faithfully attended Mass right up until the end of his life.  Charlie coached his sons and hundreds of other Quincy boys in baseball and basketball.  He coached baseball in Quincy for over 30 years, including time with the Koch Club, Keohane’s, and Jaehnig Chiropractic of the Quincy Youth Baseball League, and Quincy Legion Post 95.  He coached St. Joseph’s Basketball teams for many years.  He was a charter member of the Jiggstone Adventure Club and Kenyan Running Club.  Charlie and his wife Joan have attended countless sporting events for their children and grandchildren, something they have enjoyed their entire lives.  Charlie also got great pleasure in working in his flower and vegetable garden.  Charlie was a Veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  He retired from Boston Edison as a Watch Electrician in 1993, after 40 years of dedicated work.  He will be remembered for his easy-going manner, friendly face, hard-working example, and strong faith.

Beloved husband of Joan (Conlan) Jaehnig of Quincy.  Loving father of Mark C. and his wife Christine of Quincy, Stephen F. of Hull, Michael G. and his wife Elizabeth of Braintree, James E. and his wife Patti-Ann of Quincy, Charles D., Jr. and his wife Andrée of Quincy, Dan J. and his wife Jane of Quincy, and the late William D. Jaehnig.  Brother of Rita Pistone of FL, Arthur of Weymouth, and Paul of Boxboro, Cherished “Grampa” to Patrick, David, Matthew, Andrew, Jennifer, Ryan, Samantha, Robert, Jillian, Thomas, Christopher, Emma, and Caroline.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
