Charles C. Jordan, Jr. passed away on May 15, 2013 at his home in Linden Ponds in Hingham, MA just one day shy of his 87th birthday.
Charlie was born on May 16, 1926 in New York City and grew up in Scarsdale, New York. A graduate of Williams College and an Army veteran, he spent his career at Citibank and raised his three daughters in Rye, NY with his wife Sandy. After retiring, he moved to Orleans, MA where he spent many years as an active volunteer at Cape Cod Hospital, The Orleans Newcomers Association and the Federated Church in Orleans. In 2007, Charlie moved to Linden Ponds to be closer to his family.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Charlie was also a train enthusiast and enjoyed the smells and sounds of the tracks. He served as treasurer for countless organizations throughout his life and was an avid blood donor for many, many years. A true gentleman who was generous and self-deprecating, he made a point of remembering people’s names and was known for his ready smile, encouraging words and kindness.
Charlie was predeceased by his wife, Brenda “Sandy” W. Jordan, and is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Sue Jordan of Exeter, N.H.; his daughters, Peg Merzbacher (Tom) of Norwell, MA; Barbara Grant (Bob) of Boxford, MA; Nancy Nelson (Jay) of Newton, MA; and by his grandchildren Hilary and Peter Merzbacher; Charlie, Rob and Lindsay Grant; and Sally and Henry Nelson.
A memorial service will be held at 3 PM on June 29, 2013 at The Federated Church of Orleans, MA. Memorial gifts may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
