Ms. Cedella M. (Somers) Brady, of Weymouth, passed away in her daughter’s home surrounded by her loving family on March 22, 2025. She was 95.
Born on June 20, 1929, in Quincy, MA, Cedella was the daughter of the late John and Florence (Carter) Somers. She graduated from Weymouth High School in 1948 and went on to earn her nursing degree from Carney Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. In 1973, she furthered her education by graduating from Quincy College.
Cedella began her career at Quincy City Hospital and later worked in private duty nursing while raising her young children. She then transitioned to New England Telephone, where she dedicated 26 years before retiring from nursing. She was an active member of the Greater Boston Industrial Nurses Association and the Telephone Pioneers of America. Her passion for history and ancestry led her to involvement with the South Shore Genealogy Society. Additionally, she participated in Weymouth Recreation and the Weymouth Council on Aging.
She took great pride in maintaining her home and enjoyed traveling to Canada, Ireland, and Bermuda.
Cedella was the beloved mother of Glen Brady and his wife Karen of Tennessee and Janelle M. (Brady) Quinn and her husband Christopher of Weymouth. She was a cherished grandmother to Michael Brady, Kristen Brady, Kelsey Quinn and her partner Shaun Mahoney, Kylie (Quinn) MacLeod and her husband Ryan, and Brendan Quinn. She was also a loving great-grandmother to Dean, Noah, Liam, Sophia, and “Beautiful precious” Norah. She is also survived by her sister Laverna (Somers) Hatch and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her brother John Somers and his wife Janice (Murray), her Brother-in-law Robert Hatch as well as her grandson Matthew Brady.
A special thank you to the compassionate caretakers from Beacon Hospice who made Cedella as comfortable as possible.
Cedella’s legacy of love, dedication, and passion for family, friends and history will always be remembered.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Sunday April 6th from 3- 6 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home South Weymouth at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital).
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Monday April 7th, prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 10 AM. The family welcomes everyone to join them at Blue Hills Cemetery in Braintree following the service.
