Cecelia Grady

Cecelia Grady, wife of the late John Grady passed away at 92 years young on September 27, 2021 in Plymouth.

Beloved mother of John Grady and his wife, Joan, of Wilmington, Michael Grady of Easthampton, Robert Grady and his late longtime partner, Roberta of Wakefield, Mark Grady of Norwood, Susan Correro and her husband, Michael, of Knoxville, TN, and Michelle Constantino and her fiancé, Bob Deveraux of Plymouth. The little sister of the late Margaret Kelley and her husband john, Neil Leonard, James Leonard, survived by his wife Joan, Daniel Leonard and his wife Lorraine, and Dorothy Wilson and her husband, John.  Cherished Grandmother of Jacqueline, Courtney, Drew, Connor and Celia. Great Grandmother of Ethan, Eli, Abigail, and their brand new member of the family, Harriett. Adored Auntie of many nieces and nephews.

Cecelia was a devoted mother and doting Grandmother. If there was a baseball, basketball, or football game (which of course included the halftime show!), dance recital, holiday gathering, concert or play, she was there. Cecelia grew up a city kid from Charlestown, before raising her own large family in the Northshore suburbs.  She later moved to Alabama, where she enjoyed activities with her church, school and family. It was here that she became a much loved, and well respected, teacher who was affectionately called Coach after substituting for the high school football coach one year during off season.

She believed that each and every one of her students had potential and helped them have that same belief in themselves.  When most people were looking to retire, she started a new career and moved home to MA, settling in on the South Shore for the past 30+ years.  In her late 50’s she became a Legal Assistant for Greater Boston Legal Services where she gave clients, who were among the most vulnerable people, the same attention and respect she had given her students. Her beloved Irish heritage was celebrated in a trip to Ireland.  But no travel was more special to her than her yearly trips to the Smoky Mountains to visit her daughter, Susan, and her TN family and the trips she took to the White Mountains with her son, Jack, and his family. She was a fierce Uno player with her nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters. Her quiet but sharp wit would catch you off guard and leave you laughing.  She read the newspaper religiously, always keeping up with current events. She always said she had to live long enough to vote for Joe Biden.  And she did just that!  She lived a long life, braving more than her fair share of adversity, but at the heart of every challenge she overcame, every activity, every conversation, every achievement, every joy, every, “Now – be careful!” was her love for her children, grandchildren and extended family. They will all miss her deeply.

Relatives and friends are invited to join the family during the visitation on Friday October 15th, at 9:00 AM at McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, 809 Main Street, (Rte 18) South Weymouth, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in Sacred Heart Church, Weymouth. Burial will follow in Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.
