Kearney, Catherine P. (Connolly) of Weymouth, entered eternal life surrounded by her loving family in her home on May 28, 2023.
Born in Co. Mayo, Ireland in 1923, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mae (Devane) Connolly.
Growing up and throughout her life she was never idle, caring for her family after the passing of her mother, bicycling for miles to visit her cousins or to town or school. That day when she hopped on her bike with a small suitcase and a new homemade dress, to catch the train to Dublin airport, excited to start her new life here, she could never have imagined all that life in America would offer her.
The home on Bradley Road will always carry with it, the sounds of chatter and laughter from decades of holidays and special events, a mixture of Irish and American traditions, the sights and smells of the kitchen while she orchestrated the preparation of the food, and the dining room table full of platters and bowls piled high with dinner and desserts. Catherine’s sole purpose was her family, always asking about each of us, and offering advice. Through living a life filled with hard work and dedication, she was able to leave this earth with a grateful heart, feeling so blessed, even though it was she who blessed us. And even though our hearts will ache with missing her, we can smile knowing she got to live her life out on her own terms. We cannot sit in sorrow for too long, because we had more years than we could have hoped for with her. We “love you more than tongue can tell.”
Beloved wife of 65 years to the late Michael John Kearney of North Weymouth. Devoted mother of Michael Kearney and his wife Barbara of Weymouth, Mary Kearney Briggs of Hull, Kathleen MacDonald and her husband Paul of Hull, Anne Maher of Weymouth, Rita Kearney of Gloucester and Janet Kearney of Hull. Loving grandmother to her 17 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren who will miss her warm hugs, and her unconditional love and support.
She is also survived by her brothers, Tom Connolly and his wife Mary, Jim Connolly and his wife Nora, her sisters Teresa Hernon and Ann Palmer and many nieces and nephews here and in Ireland.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Friday 4-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday prior to the Funeral Mass at 8:15 AM. Funeral Mass in St. Jerome’s Church, North Weymouth at 9AM. Burial in Fairmount Cemetery, Weymouth. Donations in Catherine’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
