Catherine M. Connolly

Catherine “Kay” Connolly (Doherty), age 89, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2024, peacefully at her home in Quincy, MA. 

Born May 18, 1934 in Somerville, she was the daughter of the late Cornelius and Mary Doherty of Donegal, Ireland.

Kay was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Patrick (PJ) Connolly whom she wed on September 8, 1962. They began their marriage in Dorchester, later moving to Quincy where they raised their eight children.

Kay is survived by her eight children Patrick Connolly (Christine) of Braintree, Cathleen (Joseph) Conran of West Roxbury, Maureen (Michael) Greenwood of Dedham, Mary (James) Cahill of Weymouth, Michael Connolly (Nancy) of Weymouth, Eileen (William) Ryan of Braintree, Robert Connolly (Jennifer) of Weymouth and Lisa Dunn of Quincy. Nana Kay is also survived by her grandchildren Sean, Mikayla, Joey, Kristen, Kaileen, Mikey, Amelia, Bryan, Courtney, Shelagh, Billy, PJ, Audrey, Kate, Kelsey, Bobby, and Jack. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Jaxson and Joseph. Kay is the loving sister of Winifred “Winnie” Marron and the late William “Billy” Doherty. 

She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Kay was also very blessed to have her best friend, Claire McTavish, by her side for the past 65 years.

Kay was happiest spending time with family and friends, playing bingo, doing word search puzzles and listening to Irish music. Kay was an avid shopper, she also loved going to lunch with family and friends; she had the luck of the Irish when it came to playing Keno. She would never turn down an invite to the casino, to a card game or an afternoon out. Whenever you left Kay, she would end the conversation with “Be Good”…now it’s our turn to say it, Mom, “Be Good.”

The Connolly family would like to thank everyone for their support over the last year and a half, we’d especially like to thank Kay’s amazing caregivers, Keri and Lauren.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, April 8th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, Quincy, MA. A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 9th at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Parish, 237 Sea Street, Quincy, MA.
