Catherine “Kay” Mckenna

McKENNA, Catherine (Connell) “Kay” of Quincy, passed away peacefully at home on Friday August 31, 2018, she was 81.  

Born in Clare Galway, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late John and Ellen Connell.  Kay emigrated to the United States at an early age, and later worked for over 20 years for the MBTA.  She enjoyed candlepin bowling at O’Lindy’s and Lucky Strike and cooking; some of her family’s favorites being her Irish Bread, potato salad, snow pudding and potato stuffing at Thanksgiving.  Kay was very talented at crocheting and knitting and made several afghans for wedding and baby shower gifts. Kay also loved to dance and was a member of the Irish Music Club of Greater Boston (Viking Club), The Irish Social Club of Boston, and the Norwood Irish Music Club.  She was so proud of all of her grandchildren and enjoyed attending their numerous  events and activities.

Kay was the beloved wife of the late Thomas P. McKenna.  Devoted mother of Thomas P. McKenna and his wife Weijie Zhang of Andover, Mary Ellen Miller and her husband Frank of Hingham, Eileen Moscaritolo and her husband Joe of Huntington Beach CA, Donna Donohoe and her husband Michael of South Weymouth, and Patricia Blaszak and her husband David of Westford.  Cherished grandmother of Nick and his wife Kristen, Michael  and his wife Katie, Stephanie, Shannon, Matthew, Katelyn and her fiance Nick, Quentin, Brian, Kelly, Elizabeth, Emily, Christopher, and Erin.  Proud great-grandmother of Joey.  Sister of Bridget Hurney and her late husband John, Michael Connell and his wife Katie, all of Ireland, Maureen Moran and her husband Sean of Brighton, and the late Joseph and Nora Murphy.  Sister in-law of John McKenna and his wife Frances of Dennis.  Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews; her Godchildren MaryPat, Ellen, Bernadette, and Erin; and longtime friends Sally Courtney and Mary Cadogan. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday from 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. Family and friends will gather in the funeral home beginning at 9 AM on Saturday prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy at 10 o’clock. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Catherine may be made to the Irish Music Club of Greater Boston (Viking Club), 410 Quincy Ave. Braintree, MA 02184 or Boston Catholic Television, PO Box 9196, 34 Chestnut Street, Watertown, MA 02471.
