Catherine F. Shaw

Shaw, Catherine F. formerly of Quincy, Mass., died peacefully on Dec. 8, 2012 at North Bay Manor in Smithfield, RI, she was 88. She was born in Dorchester, Mass. on February 28, 1924 to Catherine F. (Fraser) Shaw and Stephen S. Shaw. She was a graduate of Girls’ Latin School in Boston, MA, Boston University Sargent College, Boston, MA and Smith College in Northhampton, MA. Catherine enjoyed a long career as a Professor of Physical Education at the University of Texas, Austin, TX, University of Maine, Orono, Maine and Lake Erie College, Painesville, Ohio. She was predeceased by her siblings William Shaw, Helen Coats and Robert Shaw. She is survived by 4 nieces Jane Shaw Carpenter, Sally Shaw Garrigan, Margot Shaw Nuissl and her late husband Carl W. Nuissl, Susan Shaw Clark and her husband Brian Clark, and one nephew David A. Shaw and his wife Sally Shaw, and special friends Joanne Miele and her husband Dr. John Miele. Catherine is also survived by numerous great nieces and nephews. Visitation at Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, Quincy, Mass on December 28, 2012 from 11-12 Noon followed by a funeral service at 12 Noon. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, 920 Adams Street, Dorchester. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Catherine may be made to the Catherine F. Shaw Scholarship Fund, Lake Erie College, 391 West Washington Street, Painesville, Ohio 44077.
