Gilmartin, Catherine E. of Quincy, August 4, 2002. Daughter of the late James and Mary (Nestor) Gilmartin. Sister of Mary M. Gilmartin of Quincy, Helen Frizzell of Plymouth and Thomas Gilmartin of Weymouth. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Catherine was born in Quincy and graduated from Quincy High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bridgewater State College and a Master’s Degree from Boston University. She was a teacher at the Massachusetts Fields School in Quincy and later became Assistant Principal at the Parker School in Quincy. When the Beachwood Knoll School opened in 1953 she became the Assistant Principal where she remained until its closing in 1981 at which time she transferred to the Merrymount School where she remained until her retirement in 1986 after 49 years of service. She was a recipient of an award from the Great Books Society. She was a member of the Quincy Teachers Retirement Association and also the Quincy Retirees Association. Kay received a Distinguished Education Award as well as a Distinguished Service Citation from Quincy Public Schools upon her retirement.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Keohane Funeral Home 785 Hancock St., WOLLASTON Friday at 10:15. Funeral Mass in Saint Agatha’s Church, Milton at 11 AM. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 PM. Interment in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy.
