Catherine T. Bent (Doherty) of Rockland, formerly of Quincy, died July 18, 2024. Kay grew up in Somerville and was a graduate of St. Clements High School. After raising her family, she worked for several years as a Lock Box Clerk for State Street Bank, where she made many new friends. She enjoyed doing word search puzzles and loved to travel anywhere with her beloved husband Bob, be it by land, sea, or air. Kay was happiest when involved in the lives of each generation of her family and was in her glory when she was surrounded by her large extended family. There was always a seat at Kay’s table, no matter how many were already there. Thanksgiving at Kay’s house was “just the family”, normally 35 to 40 guests, and if you needed a place, you were invited too. Kay had eight children but made each one feel like they were the only one. She had a great sense of humor, a soothing touch and a word of encouragement for everyone. Kay answered to many names but Mom, Ma and Gramma were her favorites and her eyes lit up when she shared time with her children and their spouses, whom she considered her own children, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. Kay had many friends and loved to share stories and laughs with all of them.
Beloved wife of 62 years to the late Robert F. Bent. Devoted mother of Robert Bent and his wife Kate of Kensington, NH, William Bent and his wife Patti of Littleton, MA, Patricia Norton and her husband John of Sandown, NH, Catherine Kilgallen and her husband Brian of Rockland, MA, Daniel Bent of Quincy, MA, daughter-in-law Astrid Bent of Hingham, MA, Maureen Thayer and her husband Bob of Pembroke, MA, Joanne Ricciarelli and her husband Jim of Rockland, MA and Jim Bent and his wife Nancy of Rockland, MA. Cherished Gramma to 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Daughter of the late John and Catherine Doherty. Predeceased by 3 siblings: Sr. Jeanne Marie Doherty, Anne McCarthy and John Doherty, Jr. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
