Catherine A. “Kay” (Callahan) Gibbons

Gibbons, Catherine A. (Callahan) “Kay” of Houghs Neck, died March 30, 2016.  

Kay was originally from Dorchester and a Houghs Neck resident for over 60 years. She was a daily communicant of Most Blessed Sacrament Church where she attended the 9 AM Mass for many years. Kay was very proud of her family and Irish heritage, and would happily share her many stories about growing up in Savin Hill. Her presence and sense of humor will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Beloved wife of the late Thomas J. Gibbons.  Loving mother of Thomas G. Gibbons and his wife Carol of Plymouth, Jeanne M. Flaherty and her husband Robert of Quincy, Brian S. Gibbons and his wife Lorraine of Quincy and Richard J. Gibbons and his wife El of Quincy.  Devoted Nana Kay of Kerry Tobin, Katie, Erin, Matthew, Mark, Daniel, Shaun, Michael and Brendan and Great Nana Kay of Hailey, Brenna, Cassidy, Ryan and Jamie.  Cherished daughter of the late Dennis and Mary Callahan.  Caring sister of Mary T. McGillvray of Quincy and the late Helen White and Frank Callahan.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.  

Kay’s family would like to extend their deepest thanks and appreciation for the love and care that the staff of the Pope Nursing Home of Weymouth has shown to Kay over these past 6 years. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Tuesday prior to the Funeral Mass in Holy Trinity Parish at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Burial in MA National Cemetery, Bourne at 12:45 PM. 

Due to cemetery restrictions Kay’s family request that in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Kay may be made to Boston Children’s Hospital Trust, 401 Park Drive, Suite 602, Boston, MA 02215.
