Carmen A. Stewart

Stewart, Carmen A. (Aguirre) of Braintree, Massachusetts passed away at the age of 88 on September 27, 2021. Carmen was an extremely hard worker, and she was ahead of her time in many ways. She seemed to have boundless energy. She was born in Vermont to the late Salustiono and Florenta Aguirre, who emigrated from Spain. She graduated from Montpelier High School, and she later became a Registered Nurse (RN) after earning a degree from Heaton Hospital School of Nursing in Montpelier, Vermont. In her younger years, Carmen lived in Boston with a roommate and worked at the New England Deaconess Hospital. She later moved back to Vermont and worked at IBM, where she met her husband Donald. After they married, they moved back to Massachusetts, living first in Scituate and then in Braintree. Carmen worked as an operating room (OR) nurse at Quincy City Hospital, in Quincy, Massachusetts for more than thirty years. After she retired from Quincy City Hospital, she remained very close with the friends she had made there.

Carmen was very generous, and she enjoyed sharing all that she earned and much of her free time with family and friends. She was always an avid reader of romance novels as well. In her earlier years, Carmen enjoyed visiting family in Vermont and participating in outdoor activities, such as skiing. She also enjoyed hosting her family for holidays. She was a great cook and baker, and she loved to share her culinary creations with her family. Her grandsons enjoyed her monkey bread almost as much as she enjoyed making it for them, and the monkey bread soon became a family tradition. Later in life, Carmen enjoyed participating in group activities, such as bowling and trips to Newport and Foxwoods, with the friends she’d made at Quincy City Hospital.

Beloved wife of the late Donald H. Stewart. Loving mother of Deborah J. Stewart (and her partner Cheryl Whitmarsh) of Braintree and the late David W. Stewart. Sister of the late Ramon Aguirre (and his wife Joan Aguirre). Loving grandmother of James and Benjamin Stewart. Cherished Aunt of Pamela Shover (and her husband David) of Underhill, Vermont, Sharon Davis of Kennebunk, Maine and the late Anna Maria Aguirre. Grandaunt of Chelsea Brittain (and her husband Adam and daughters Lilah and Evie) of Kennebunk, Maine. Carmen will be truly missed!

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during visiting hours on Sunday from 1-3 PM at the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rt.18 opposite South Shore Hospital).
