Carmela "Mela" Marchione

Carmela “Mela” Marchione (Totino) of Hull passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2024, in her home surrounded by her loving family.

Carmela was born in Gioiosa Ionica, Reggio Calabria, Italy on November 20, 1937 to Francesco and Giuseppina Totino and was one of six siblings. Carmela married her husband Anthony Marchione (known to many as “Tony the Barber” from Station Street in Hingham) on October 5, 1959, and they just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Together they had three children, Quintino, Frank, and Julianna. On March 8, 1970, Carmela and her family moved to the United States and settled in Hull, Massachusetts, where she remained until her death.

Carmela was a very talented and accomplished seamstress and dressmaker. It was both a career and lifelong passion of hers. She was a woman of deep religious faith who went to Mass regularly and prayed the Rosary daily. Carmela also took pleasure in cooking, especially for her family, ensuring they were always well fed. Additionally, she loved to walk, especially by the beach. Carmela has eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She loved them all very much and her greatest joy was spending time with them. She especially loved to host her whole family on Christmas Eve.

Carmela is survived by her husband, Anthony Marchione of Hull, her children Quintino Marchione and wife Diane of Hingham, Frank Marchione and wife Regina of Hull, and Julianna “Julie” Gratta and husband Anthony of Hingham, grandchildren Cristina Barletto and husband Jim, Monica Kennedy and husband Pat, Alessandra Winter and husband Tim, Daniela Marchione and partner Joe Previte, Isabella Hughes and husband Josh, Maria Marchione, Frankie Marchione, and Gabriela Marchione, and great grandchildren Ava, James, Patrick, Grace, and Mila. She is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday, October 28th, 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald Street, Hingham. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Parish in St. Ann’s Church, Hull on Tuesday October, 29th at 10:30 AM. Burial at Saint Paul’s Cemetery in Hingham to follow.

The family would like to thank everyone at NVNA and Hospice who were part of Carmela’s wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to NVNA and Hospice in memory of Carmela.
