Camilla Leah (Camillo) Roundtree

Camilla “Leah” Roundtree, 90, a long-time resident of Hingham, MA, passed away of natural causes on August 24, 2022.

Born on October 25, 1931 to loving parents Manuel Camillo and Grace Camillo, Leah was a bundle of joy from the very beginning. From an early age, she enjoyed pastimes such as cooking and painting in watercolors, and she was a Girl Scout. After graduating from Roxbury Memorial High School (Girls) in 1949, Leah went on to work with her parents at their family-owned restaurant in Boston, MA. It was one day while working there that she met Eugene Van Nostrand Roundtree. The two fell in love, married, and had 7 children: Eugene, Christopher, Nicholas, Phillip, Nancy, Stephan, and Anne Marie (Faul). Being a mother was one of the most important parts of Leah’s life, a role that gave her much pride and joy. She was an excellent mom; supportive, kind, hilarious, and witty.

Leah was an active member of her South Shore community.  She was the first Coordinator to ever be named to the Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity program (METCO) and she greatly enjoyed a 40+ year career as the first ever METCO Coordinator for the Hingham METCO program.  In addition to welcoming METCO students and their families to Hingham Public Schools, she mentored them, provided guidance and support to students, parents, and host families, and even drove a bus to enable participation in after-school activities.  The program was a life passion for her until her retirement in 2011 and her dedication to it led to her being selected by The Hingham Journal as Citizen of the Year in 2001.  She was also an active member of the South Shore Citizen’s Club, the Hingham Civic Chorus, the Girl Scouts, and the choir of the Resurrection Parish. Leah was so delighted the year that the town of Hingham bestowed the great honor of naming her the Grand Marshal of it’s 4th of July Parade.

Leah is survived by her seven children, 12 grandchildren (Eugene, Charles, Christopher Adam, Aaron, Tyler, Ashlie, Portia, Stephan, Ian, Jaden, Titus, and Sable), and 7 great grandchildren (Isaiah, Darius, Luke, Lydia, Noel, James, and Raelyn). She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, April. We are joined in mourning her memory by a host of beloved nieces and nephews of the Camillo and Harris families. We will all miss her dearly.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 10 AM on Thursday, September 8, 2022, prior to the Funeral Mass in Church of the Resurrection, 1057 Main St., Hingham, at 11 AM.
