Brian Reed Clarridge passed away of COVID 19 on January 6, 2021. He was in hospice at home in Linden Ponds, Hingham MA, with his wife, Jeanine Thubauville, nearby.
He was pre-deceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Steve Pelletiere, and by his beloved foster daughter, Lilly Nguyen. Brian is survived by his wife of 43 years, his sister and brother-in-law Joan and Charlie Zartman of Gig Harbor WA, his sister Jill Clarridge of Bremerton WA, his brother David Clarridge of Newburyport MA, and many nieces and nephews and their children.
Brian was born on July 14, 1944, in Rochester NY. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1967 and served as an officer in the United States Navy from January 1967 to November 1970. After leaving the Navy in the Philippines, he traveled around Asia, Africa, and Europe before returning to the University of Wisconsin-Madison to pursue a Ph.D. in sociology. He met Jeanine there on a blind date. He received his doctorate in 1983 and worked for the State of Wisconsin before relocating to New England in 1993, to begin a career in survey design and analysis. He was an author on numerous scientific publications. He retired from the University of Massachusetts-Boston Center for Survey Research in 2004. He enjoyed his retirement years with Jeanine at their home on the shore of Quincy Bay; spending time with Lilly; motorcycling, hiking, and sailing with David and Charlie; researching his genealogy; traveling; and hosting visits from many family members and friends. When Brian’s Parkinson’s made life in a big old house no longer safe, Brian and Jeanine moved to Linden Ponds on December 1, 2016, to begin a new chapter in their lives, a chapter which ended too soon. Brian will always be remembered for his sweet nature, his special sense of humor, his loyalty to family and friends, and for his unique collection of bucket hats.
A memorial gathering will be planned at a later date.
Normally, the funeral is an opportunity for the community to gather in support of one another. Although we cannot gather together with Brian’s family at this time, friends may still offer their support by sharing a special memory or message.
