Brian F. Dunn

Brian F. Dunn, a resident of Quincy for 56 years, entered into eternal rest on February 2, 2025, following a brief and brave battle with glioblastoma.

He was a retired Massachusetts State Trooper (66th RTT) and a graduate of Boston College High School (Class of 1980) and Roger Williams College (Class of 1984).

Brian was predeceased by his father, Lieutenant Colonel Robert E. Dunn (MSP, 45th RTT, ret.). He was the beloved husband of Meredyth (Leahy) Dunn; the devoted son of Mary M. Dunn; the loyal brother of Robert E. Dunn Jr. and his wife Jean of New Hampshire; Colleen Maimaron and her husband David, and Kristin T. Freeman and her husband Donald, all of the South Shore. Brian was the proud uncle of James and John Dunn, and Bobby and Tiernan Maimaron.

In 1983, Brian began his law enforcement career as a Falmouth Police Officer. In 1985, he joined the Massachusetts State Police. He spent the majority of his thirty-five year career in Field Services. He spent nine years in Troop A at the Andover Barracks and nineteen years at Troop H in the South Boston Barracks and the Massachusetts State House. In the seven year interim between Troops, he was with the Division of Investigative Services and assigned to the Special Services Section (SSS) and the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (VFAS).

Brian was a Field Training Officer and a member of the Public Order Platoon (POP) for several years. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts State Police Museum.

In 2001, Brian received the Superintendent’s Unit Citation for his role, and the collective effort of the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, in arresting over 100 violent fugitives in the span of sixteen months.

In 2009, he received the Medal of Lifesaving for his quick response to a dire medical emergency where he and another trooper helped revive and save a woman who was not breathing.

In 2012, he received a Superintendent Commendation for working tirelessly on fourteen hour shifts over a nine day period to provide manpower and support in the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey.

In 2016 he, once again, received the Superintendent’s Unit Citation for assisting the Cleveland Police Department and Ohio State Police with security and crowd control operations during the Republican National Convention.

Brian was a fan of Irish music, lighthouses, and the Boston Bruins. He had an immense talent for creating framed works of art for the Massachusetts State Police, along with other law enforcement agencies and sports teams. Additionally, he was an avid collector of police and fire patches, coins and memorabilia. He channeled that passion into running the Metro Boston Police Collectors Show and Swap Meet.

Above all else, and more importantly, Brian loved his family and his country. His unbounded generosity and loyalty to his family and friends were present in everything he did.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family at the visiting hours from 4-8 PM on Tuesday, 2/11/2025 at the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, Quincy. A Celebration of Life will be held at 9:15 AM on Wednesday, 2/12/2025 at the Keohane Funeral Home prior to the Funeral Mass at 10 AM at St. Ann’s Church, 757 Hancock Street, Quincy.
