Bradford Sherman Tripp, 77, of Hingham, Massachusetts, died on April 7, 2013, surrounded by his loving family, after a valiant battle with ALS.
Bradford was born in New Bedford, Ma. to Marion S. (Malmadie) Tripp and Willis C. Tripp, and was raised in Padanaram by his mother Marion and his maternal grandparents Nancy and Charles Malmadie. Bradford graduated in 1954 from Berkshire School in Sheffield, Massachusetts where he was a track and field star, setting the record for the mile with an official time of 4:41. Bradford earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Middlebury College in 1956. He served in the United States Army from 1957-1959 in Korea. In 1974, Bradford graduated from Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program.
Bradford started at State Street Bank as a computer programmer, and over a thirty-two year career with the company he rose to the position of Executive Vice President of Global Operations. Bradford was highly instrumental in bringing State Street into the Computer Age. He retired from State Street Corporation in 1993. After his retirement, Bradford served on the boards of Sullivan Tire and Auto Service and Sugarloaf Mountain Corporation.
Bradford was a member of the New Bedford Yacht Club and a former member of the Hingham Yacht Club. He had spent many happy years in his youth racing sailboats at the New Bedford Yacht Club, accumulating numerous trophies in the process. As a young man, he raced on Carleton Mitchell’s 58-foot yawl CARIBEE in the Newport to Bermuda Race. Later in his life, Bradford enjoyed spending summers in Padanaram with his extended family and numerous friends. He had a life long passion for downhill skiing, which he enjoyed with his family at Sugarloaf Mountain in Maine.
Bradford is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Jane. He is also survived by his children, Alison and Michael Cundari of Hingham, Lauren Lee and her husband of Hingham, Alison and Lauren’s mother Susan Tripp of Hingham, Amanda and Ryan Hayes of Boston, Leigh Markey of Encinitas, California, and his grandchildren, Marion, Olivia, Francis, Weston, Bradford, Dylan and Finn.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday 5-8 p.m. in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A memorial service in Bradford’s honor will be held on Saturday, May 4 at 2:00 pm at the Old Ship Meeting House located at 107 Main Street, Hingham, Ma. In lieu of flowers donations in Bradford’s name may be made to Norwell Visiting Nurse Association, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA 02061.
